About iLevelUP
iLevelUP is a free, AI-powered, game-based learning experience being developed by Believe in Me to help young people explore education and career possibilities and build self-confidence. The product is in limited beta. The learner is the main character, and iLevelUP is the guide.
Curriculum architect role overview
The official role is Learning Experience & Curriculum Architect. iLevelUP seeks a remote volunteer curriculum architect to shape its game-based career exploration experience. You will connect what a learner should understand with what they do, the guidance they receive, and the evidence that they are making progress.
Our limited beta gives us a starting point to test and refine. You will help the team build concise, age-appropriate experiences that expand possibilities, support confidence, and help learners identify a useful next step.
What you will own
You own the connection among learning objectives, mission sequence, practice, feedback, and formative assessment. Game design owns progression mechanics; product and research partners help prioritize learner needs; the evaluation contributor helps assess results.
Curriculum architect responsibilities
- Review existing objectives and content for gaps, duplication, prerequisite problems, unclear language, and opportunities for meaningful learner choice.
- Create a competency map for the initial experience, with observable outcomes and evidence appropriate to the learner's developmental stage.
- Design short missions, scenarios, reflections, and practice activities that connect interests and strengths with possible education or career pathways.
- Specify scaffolds, worked examples, hints, retries, and feedback that help learners recover from confusion without shame or unnecessary repetition.
- Write implementation-ready storyboards and content specifications for designers, writers, animators, engineers, and AI contributors.
- Define formative checks that reveal understanding and next-step clarity. Keep exploratory activities from becoming consequential labels or predictions about a child's future.
- Use inclusive language, Universal Design for Learning principles, accessible alternatives, and cultural responsiveness when reviewing content and interactions.
- Work with UX and evaluation contributors on approved testing; translate findings into revised content, reusable templates, and instructional quality standards.
Early deliverables
- First 30 days: complete the content audit and produce a prioritized competency map for one core learner journey.
- By 60 days: deliver an implementation-ready mission sequence with practice, feedback, formative checks, and accessible alternatives.
- By the end of the initial project: review a working prototype, revise it using available evidence, and document reusable design and quality-review standards.
Curriculum architect required qualifications
- Work samples demonstrating instructional design, curriculum design, learning-experience design, assessment, or educational product development.
- Ability to align measurable objectives with activities, feedback, and evidence of understanding.
- Strong writing and editing skills for concise, developmentally appropriate learner-facing content.
- Experience with learner analysis, sequencing, storyboarding, and formative assessment.
- Ability to explain your instructional decisions, work iteratively with a product team, and document specifications clearly.
Curriculum architect helpful experience
- Experience with game-based learning, career exploration, conversational learning, or AI-supported education.
- Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning, neurodiversity, culturally responsive education, or trauma-informed practice. Relevant work can come from education, research, nonprofit service, or a strong portfolio.
How we work
Work with product, learning, design, game systems, engineering, and evaluation contributors. Seek subject-matter review for specialized content and revise designs when learner evidence challenges an assumption.
Why volunteer with iLevelUP
- Contribute to a nonprofit education product at a stage when your decisions can shape the learner experience.
- Own a meaningful body of work and collaborate across education, design, engineering, and student support.
- Develop work samples and share approved contributions in your portfolio while respecting project and learner confidentiality.
Time commitment and location
Fully remote and unpaid. Preferred commitment is approximately 5 to 10 hours per week for an initial 12-week project. Scope, schedule, and any continuation will be agreed with the selected volunteer.
How to apply
Apply for the Learning Experience & Curriculum Architect volunteer role. Use the Believe in Me volunteer application. Share your résumé or LinkedIn profile, relevant work samples, weekly availability, and why this role interests you. Share only authorized materials and remove personal, confidential, or proprietary information.
Include a curriculum map, storyboard, lesson sequence, assessment sample, or case study. Explain how you connected an objective with an activity and evidence of learning, and identify the learner groups you know best.
We welcome applicants from varied backgrounds and pathways. Demonstrated capability, judgment, and dependable collaboration matter more than a particular degree. If you need an accommodation for the application or interview process, contact us through iLevelUP’s contact page.
