About iLevelUP

Localization Specialist role overview
As an iLevelUP Localization Specialist, you will contribute practical expertise to a nonprofit education product in limited beta. Make iLevelUP content understandable across languages and cultural contexts. Translate and adapt learning materials, interface copy, and support resources while preserving their meaning.
You will work with the relevant team to agree on priorities, review progress, and document decisions. Because the product is still developing, clear handoffs and useful feedback matter.
What you will own
Your contribution centers on the responsibilities below. First, understand the current work and the needs of your collaborators. Next, agree on a manageable scope with the team lead. Then, share progress and raise blockers early. Finally, document the decisions that your teammates need for the next step.
Localization Specialist responsibilities
- Translate and localize app content, including educational materials, user interface text, and support resources, from English into one or more target languages.
Early deliverables
- First, review the current translation and localization work and identify useful next steps with your team lead.
- Next, agree on an initial deliverable, its review criteria, and the people who need to contribute.
- Finally, complete a reviewable piece of work and document what the next contributor needs to know.
Localization Specialist required qualifications
- Proficiency in English and at least one other language, with a strong preference for native speakers of the target language.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in the target language, with attention to detail and an understanding of cultural nuances.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment and communicate effectively across different cultures and time zones.
- Passion for education, accessibility, and the mission of Believe in Me to empower marginalized youth.
- Commitment to volunteering two to three hours per week on translation and localization work.
Localization Specialist helpful experience
- Previous experience in translation, localization, or a related field is highly desirable.

Why volunteer with iLevelUP
- Contribute to a nonprofit education product at a stage when your decisions can shape the learner experience.
- Own a meaningful body of work and collaborate across education, design, engineering, and student support.
