IT Infrastructure Architect role overview
As an iLevelUP IT Infrastructure Architect, you will contribute practical expertise to a nonprofit education product in limited beta. Plan infrastructure that the team can operate safely and reliably. Translate application needs into cloud architecture, backup plans, and practical technical guidance.
You will work with the relevant team to agree on priorities, review progress, and document decisions. Because the product is still developing, clear handoffs and useful feedback matter.
What you will own
Your contribution centers on the responsibilities below. First, understand the current work and the needs of your collaborators. Next, agree on a manageable scope with the team lead. Then, share progress and raise blockers early. Finally, document the decisions that your teammates need for the next step.
IT Infrastructure Architect responsibilities
- Design and implement a scalable, secure, and efficient cloud-based infrastructure that supports the app's operations and growth.
- Collaborate with the app development team to understand application requirements, ensuring the infrastructure supports these needs effectively.
- Establish and maintain disaster recovery strategies and data backup systems to prevent data loss and ensure continuity of service.
- Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks or issues, and implement optimizations or solutions.
- Advise on best practices for system security, compliance, and data protection, ensuring the infrastructure adheres to relevant regulations and standards.
- Coordinate with the Technical Support and Maintenance Team to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues.
- Stay updated on new technologies and trends in IT infrastructure that could benefit the project, suggesting improvements or innovations when appropriate.
Early deliverables
- First, review the current cybersecurity and it operations work and identify useful next steps with your team lead.
- Next, agree on an initial deliverable, its review criteria, and the people who need to contribute.
- Finally, complete a reviewable piece of work and document what the next contributor needs to know.
IT Infrastructure Architect required qualifications
- Proven experience in IT infrastructure design and management, particularly in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
- Strong understanding of system architecture, network configuration, and data storage solutions.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, data protection regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to web applications.
- Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and data backup technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a remote, volunteer-driven team.
- Passion for using technology to make a positive impact on society, especially in supporting educational initiatives.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members.
